Great Eastern Run 2010 - My first half marathon

Stupidly (or not!), I am yet to decide, I was a last minute entrant to the Great Eastern Run in Peterborough. It is a 13.1 mile (half marathon) course in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

The weather was great. Very sunny, but not too warm, around 17 degrees C. Around 4500 had entered, so there were plenty of people doing it.

The course was very flat, fast and well marshalled. It was also really well supported by the locals of Peterborough. Someone even had a BBQ going which caused much conversation at the finish line and on the Runners World Forum.

I don't actually remember much of the race after mile 8 until mile 12. I know I had to stop a couple of times to walk, and had to queue for the toilet at mile 11, but I really just blanked it out. Very tired and little to no energy. I tried some gels, but needed substantially more than the 2 I took for the trip. It said 6 would be needed according to the manufacturer, they were right.

I was hoping for sub 2 hours 15 and would have been well on for that if I hadn't walked a couple of times and lost about 4 minutes at the toilet.

My final time, and therefore my new PB for the half marathon was 2 hours 18 minutes and 24 seconds, 2:18:24.

I agree with most of your points, but some need to be discussed further, I will hold a small talk with my buddies and perhaps I will ask you some advice later.
